SmartGITS is an intelligent system to assist a geologist to make decisions while in the field. Also, it allows a user to work with large data sets under the constraints imposed by limited bandwidth. SmartGITS is expected to:
- Demonstrate Intelligent Agent and Semantic Web technologies to assist the geologist in searching Internet-based resources to find and retrieve relevant information while in the field.
- Demonstrate hyperspectral browser technology, novel analysis algorithms, and new compression algorithms to enable the geologist in the field to effectively work remotely with large data sets.
- Demonstrate the use of a field spectrometer to capture spectral samples in the field, to reference remote spectral libraries, and to use the spectral samples in searching and querying hyperspectral imagery stored on a remote server.
The Smart Geophysical Information Technology System (SmartGITS) project is a research project funded by Precarn Inc. Other participants include: MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., Richmond, BC Noranda Inc., Toronto, ON University of Calgary, Calgary, AB University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB Canadian Space Agency, Saint-Hubert, QC
