Team Member From MDA

Dr. Harold Zwick is the Manager of the Research and Developement
department. He received his Ph.D. in Physics in University of Sasketchewan.
He was involved in many different projects such as: MERIS (imaging
spectrometer on ENVISAT) product definition on Matra/ESA Envisat PDS project
(phase C0) for algorithm analysis and development. He also defined a
program and lead a team of Canadian researchers (CESL) who are designing
and evaluating MERIS data processing algorithms for Canadian applications
in water and land monitoring.
Dr. Robert Orth is the Project Manager of the SmartGITS project. He obtained
his Ph.D. in Physics at the University of British Columbia. In 1977, he joined
MDA and developed the geometric theory for processing spaceborne synthetic
aperture radar. He also led the development of MacDonald Dettwiler's digital
image analysis system. Dr.Orth is a senior member of MacDonald Dettwiler's
Research Department, and divides his time between project management of
intelligent systems, and developing application concepts for Synthetic Aperture
Radar (SAR) images in partnership with Radarsat International (RSI).
Christian Nadeau is the Project Leader for SmartGITS. He obtnained a M.Sc.
in remote sensing from the University of Sherbrooke. Christian has expert
knowledge of hyperspectral remote sensing applications, atmospheric
correction and data compression. He also has 3 years experience at CCRS as
a Software Engineer (SWE) developing and maintaining a hyperspectral data
processing software, called ISDAS, and providing training to ISDAS users.
Willa Wei is the Project Engineer for the SmartGITS project. She obtained her
Master degree in Geographic Information System in University of Waterloo.
She has many years of GIS experience including Geo-spatial Information
System and application design and implementation. She had participated in
a R&D project to develop technology for delivery of text and digital map data
to portable devices using wireless communications services. She had also
led an R&D project to develop a prototype system to provide wireless access
capability for DataQuick.com land tittle data services.
Richard Yates is the System Engineer for the SmartGITS project. He attended
the Western Institute of Computer Science course on Computer System
Performance Analysis at Stanford University. He had been responsible for
investigating and demonstrating e-commerce technologies and had published
a report on portal technology with a survey of current product offerings in
this area. He also developed a rapid engineering process for the company,
developed process description documents and training materials, gave
presentations and is presently giving a series of training courses to our
managers and engineers.
Belinda Li is a software engineer for the SmartGITS project. She obtained a
doctoral degree in engineering in computer science at Chinese Academy
of Science. She had designed and developed QuickImage Property
Information Search Engine for property aerial/satellite imagery and
information retrieval. She also implemented the HIBR Hyperspectral Image
Browser and developed the HIBR metadata web search tool with Oracle and
Meta Manager to connect to CEONet.
Ali Shankaie is a software engineer for the SmartGITS project. He obtained a
M.A.Sc degree in computer engineering from the University of British
Columbia. As a software engineer, he has participated in the analysis,
design, development, and testing of web-based applications using J2EE
technology. As a research assistant at UBC, he had designed and developed a
'Semantic Query Optimizer' for a textual database.
Alice Wong is a co-op student from the University of British Columbia. She is
currently in her third year study of her honours degree in computer science
and mathematics. She will participate in the development and implementation
of the SmartGITS project.
